PhotoIreland Festival’s portfolio review weekend will take place on 11-14 July 2013 at Moxie Studios in Dublin city, representing a unique opportunity for emerging artists worldwide to highlight new photographic projects and meet with international professionals to further their careers.
in 2012, the total number of portfolios submitted was over 150, from over 20 countries, such as Japan, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Russia, United States, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Philippines, Finland, Lithuania, Greece, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and, of course, Ireland.
The selection jury shortlisted 45 portfolios that were reviewed by a team of 17 professionals over 2 days. We produced a publication sponsored by Blurb, Portfolio 12, dedicated to highlight the selected portfolios. It included articles and interviews by a number of experts, offering invaluable insights for photographers.
We are delighted that everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed the event, and many of the participants have benefited because of it from exposure in magazine articles, were offered an exhibition, or a publication opportunity.
The reviewers selected David Gaaljar’s Concresco as the overall winner of Portfolio 12. He will enjoy a solo show, opening at The Copper House Gallery on 13 July 2013. We were delighted for David when we learnt in November that he also won the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards in the First PhotoBook category, receiving $10,000 for his next project.
